Mutual Aid - Call for Visual Art Submissions
Fruitslice
Fruitslice Art Submission Guidelines Issue 13: Mutual Aid We're interested in artwork inspired by linocuts, punk patches, zines, protest posters, community printmaking, and DIY publishing. We're looking for pieces that feel handmade, graphic, rough, and imperfect DIY ephemera. Bold shapes, strong contrast, simplified imagery, visible texture, hand lettering, and limited color palettes. Open to collage, patches, block printing, flyers, infographics, and zines. Art and printed matter that was made to shared, passed around, posted on walls, or reproduced cheaply and easily. However, you DO NOT need to be working in one of these styles or mediums to submit. We're open to photography, painting, drawing, textiles, digital art, and anything else that can translate well to print. About Fruitslice Fruitslice exclusively showcases work created by members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Creating a dedicated space where Queer voices are centered is fundamental to our mission. We also recognize that identity is personal and nuanced. We trust contributors to determine for themselves whether they align with our community focus. Submission Basics Submission fee: None. Payment: We do not offer compensation or provide complimentary print copies. Work contributed to Fruitslice is considered a donation of time, talent, and art in support of our mission to distribute, democratize access to, and archive Queer art and ideas. We are working toward a funding model that would allow us to pay artists, writers, editors, and staff in the future, but for now Fruitslice is entirely volunteer-run. You can read more about that in our FAQ. Theme: All work should connect in some way to this issue’s theme, Mutual Aid. Mediums: We accept all printable visual mediums. If you’re not sure whether your work fits, you’re welcome to submit it anyway. No AI: We do not accept AI-generated or AI-assisted work. You can read more about this policy in our FAQ. Multiple Submissions Please submit each piece separately. If you upload several pieces in the same submission form, we’ll assume they are meant to be considered as a series. If you submit a series, please let us know whether: you want the full series to be considered together you would be okay with us publishing only one piece or part of the series Cover Letters Cover letters are welcome, but not required. We do like hearing a little about how your work connects to the theme. You can include that in the submission form or in a cover letter. File Requirements File name: LastNameFirstName_PieceTitle Resolution: Minimum of 300 DPI. Please double-check any titles, captions, or text that appear in your work before submitting. Artist Statements Artist statements are optional and can be up to ~500 words. Please submit them as a .doc or .docx file and not as a PDF. If you include an artist statement, please tell us: whether it is only for our editors to read or if you want it published with the work whether you would be okay with us publishing the artwork without the statement if we don’t have room for both Print Dimensions You do not need to design your artwork specifically to these dimensions unless the dimensions are important to the piece.
